Old Newton Methodist Church

                          Welcome

Our Mission Statement:

Old Newton Methodist Church is a warm, friendly and caring church.  Our Mission is to be a church focussed on spreading the Gospel to all age groups, by practising what we preach to one another and in outreach to the community.

Please see below for an update from Rita.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

The Methodist Church has issued advice that worship services in its churches are suspended for the time being.

It is with sadness that we have received this directive from the Methodist Connexion that all services and activities are suspended with immediate effect because of the coronavirus guidance received from the government.  It is so important that you keep yourself safe. So, there will be no services from this Sunday 22ndMarch until further notice.

Each week we will prepare a worship at home sheet that can be used on a Sunday morning.  We are suggesting that this is at 10.30am when all individuals will use the service sheet and feel connected to each other.

My prayers, as always, are with you all at this difficult time.

May the God of love bless you,

May the God of love strengthen you

May the God of love carry your burdens

May the God of love hear your prayers. Amen.

God Bless, Reverend Rita Carr

How can we sing the songs of the Lord while in a foreign land’ Ps137’

These words from Psalm 137 seem very pertinent for us at this moment.

Where ever we are, God is with us. So, although over the coming weeks or even months

we may feel isolated from the community that usually gives us support we can take comfort from these words and know that as a community we remain connected.

At a time when Francis and I want to physically hold you we can only hold you in prayer.

We long to embrace the bereaved, hold the hands of those who are sick and have a cup of tea with you all.

As we have been told to exercise only once a day I walked into town wearing my clerical collar showing the town of Stowmarket that they are being held and prayed over.

As I moved out of the way for a young couple to pass by the young lad said ‘stay safe during this virus’. I was really moved by his sentiments.

As I was walking back the sun the was shining and I was beginning to feel quite warm.

All of a sudden I realised that I was singing the words ‘O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder consider all the works thy hand hath made’. And it dawned on me that all this will pass and we will still have the ‘forest glades, the birds singing, the mighty mountains and the gentle breeze’.

We may have to dramatically change our daily lives for a few weeks but God unchanging will be there to carry us through. We will be given the strength to see this through.

God Bless you at this time, Rita and Francis

 Old Newton Chapel

Fellowship at Old Newton

Old Newton Methodist Chapel is a warm, welcoming and lively place to worship on a Sunday morning. Our evening service is more reflective in nature.

Although we are in a rural location we are at the heart of the community. We reach out in Mission through Hospitality serving regular meals on the first Tuesday of the month.  We hold a regular Bible Study and we Pause for Prayer on the first and third Tuesday of the month.

The surrounding countryside in which we are set  is a living testament to God’s glory.

We hope you like our web site and enjoy exploring all we have to offer.
